Warning Signs

  1. Isolation and social withdrawal
  2. Tremors (shaking or trembling) or
  3. Lethargy or slurred or significantly slowed reaction times
  4. Absenteeism and tardiness
  5. Unusual or significant financial difficulties
  6. Secrecy about accountability for spending or free time
  7. Mood swings, irritability, or increased periods of depression or anger
  8. Using alcohol or conducting behavior done in secrecy at inappropriate times and at inappropriate places.

  • Adamant commitment to sobriety
  • Compulsive Attempts to impose sobriety on others
  • Defensiveness
  • Compulsive behavior
  • Impulsive behavior
  • Tendencies towards loneliness
  • Tunnel vision
  • Minor depression
  • Loss of constructive planning
  • Plans begin to fail
  • Idle daydreaming and wishful thinking
  • Feeling that nothing can be solved
  • Immature wish to be happy
  • Periods of confusion
  • Irritation with friends
  • Easily angered
  • Irregular eating habits
  • Listlessness
  • Irregular sleeping habits
  • Progressive Loss of daily structure
  • Periods of deep depression
  • Irregular attendance at Treatment and/or support meetings
  • Development of the “I Don’t Care” attitude
  • Open rejection of help
  • Dissatisfaction with life
  • Feelings of powerlessness and helplessness
  • Self-pity
  • Thoughts of social drinking
  • Conscious lying
  • Complete loss of self-confidence
  • Unreasonable resentments
  • Discontinuing all treatments
  • Overwhelming loneliness, frustration, anger and tension
  • Start of controlled drinking
